Regulatory Story View

A guided walk through individual predicted regulatory chains: lncRNA sponge → miRNA → mRNA target → biological / epigenetic function. These illustrate how the layers connect — every link is predicted, not experimentally validated.

These examples deliberately highlight a candidate ceRNA (sponge) role for the lncRNA. That is only one of many possible lncRNA functions, and most lncRNAs in this study were not predicted to act as ceRNAs — the chains below are illustrative hypotheses, not a claim that sponging is these transcripts' primary or only role.

ptuh-mir-novel-4 → TNRC6 (miRISC scaffold), buffered by two lncRNA sponges

Pocillopora tuahiniensis

In P. tuahiniensis, two long non-coding RNAs are predicted to sponge ptuh-mir-novel-4, which putatively represses TNRC6 — an essential scaffold protein of the miRNA-induced silencing complex (miRISC). Sequestration of the miRNA is consistent with indirect derepression of TNRC6, adding a self-referential layer to the miRNA pathway itself.

Interpretation

Consistent with lncRNA-mediated derepression of TNRC6; hypothesized, not experimentally validated.

Unvalidated. This chain is a hypothesis assembled from predicted binding and correlation (n = 5, unadjusted p). It has not been experimentally tested and does not establish causation.
